Moses basket huntuma
This ethically-produced Moses basket boasts simple and natural undyed sisal with soft brown carry handles made from sustainably-sourced goat’s leather. It is the ultimate ethical baby gift, and a stylish addition to any nursery.
The weavers who produce these Moses baskets work as part of a talented weaving co-operative in Northern Ghana. The majority of these weavers are mothers themselves, having been taught the age-old art of basket weaving from their own mothers and grandmothers. Agricultural work is the basis of most weavers’ incomes, but prolific drought makes it increasingly difficult for families to make ends meet. Basket weaving, and producing these exquisite woven Moses baskets, empowers women with the opportunity to earn a valuable second income.
Each Moses basket takes around three days to complete, using veta vera grass (also known as ‘elephant grass’) which grows wild in Ghana and produces wonderfully balanced and sturdy basketry. These Ghanaian Moses baskets are the perfect napping space for new arrivals.
Each basket comes with a soft, quilted hypoallergenic foam mattress with a washable cover and an organic jersey cotton fitted sheet.
Choose to add a natural coconut coir and wool mattress, made from hundreds of coconut fibres and recommended for newborn babies. This mattress also comes with an organic cotton cover and a waterproof sleeve.
